Sacked beauty therapist nails $4000 award - New Zealand Herald
Ms Philpott had answered an advertisement from the company, which was looking for a fully qualified and experienced beauty therapist and nail technician. Refinery owner Debbie Francis told the authority that during the job interview, Ms Philpott indicated she had not had a great deal of nail technician work, but was experienced in the other areas of the job description. After a week, Ms Francis said Ms Philpott did not even have the basic skills and would have to be trained “virtually from scratch”. Shortly after Ms Philpott started, Ms Francis said she started receiving complaints from customers. Ms Philpott told the authority that on February 22 Ms Broadbent gave her a termination letter and told her to sign it. Authority member Dzintra King said although Ms Philpott signed the letter, it was clear she felt she had no choice and so was therefore constructively dismissed. read more

Natural Beauty Summit hones in on regulatory issues - CosmeticsDesign.com
The second Natural Beauty Summit will open its doors in New York next week, where organizers are expecting regulatory issues relating to natural and organic cosmetics to top many delegates’ agendas. Currently manufacturers are being inundated with choice concerning natural and organic standards, which is leading many of the industries key players to make calls for a more cohesive certification process. Pivotal to these calls has been a recent announcement by the Natural Products Association, which is launching its own standard for natural cosmetics. The body’s ’seal of approval’ aims to identify cosmetic products that have fulfilled its standards for products that contain enough natural or organic ingredients to be certified as such. The move aims to cut down on the estimated 80 percent of cosmetics products that are currently being marketed in the US as natural or organic but don’t actually have the required 95 percent level of natural ingredients. Jointly organized by Beyond Beauty and Organic Monitor, the summit will be split into four segments, looking at the current US regulatory framework, marketing, product claims and labeling, developing an American natural standard, an update on the USDA standard and European harmonization. read more
